4 Pine Grove Court
Located al Lighthouse avenue and Grove Acres, Pme Grove Court has been
contributing to the enjoyment of Peninsula visitors since 1922. At present there
are 35 cabins with modern convenienccs located in one of the most 0icturesque
spots to be found in the Circle of Enchantment. While there are all conventences
to house cars, no camping space is available, and all outside cookers have been
removed. This means that though trailer facilities are available are provided, no
provision will be made to accommodate those who come to Pine Grove with the
intention of using that site for the erection of their own equipment, and every ef-
fort is being made to discourage the practice. Mrs. E.R. Schneider, proprietor of
Pine Grove Court, has so conducted her business and chosen such a class of
sal--.
trade that her court has earned the reputation of being a place to come for quiet
'
and rest. A horse shoe pitching court on site is popular with the visitors.
Sea Breeze Auto Court
. e --
A year ago last February (1936), Charles Lemos, proprietor of the Sea Breeze
Auto Court, put in his first cabin where Grove Acres avenue intersects Light-
house, and from that time he has continued to build until at present he has 17
cabins for rent. Lemos has one of the largest auto court sites in Pacific Grove,
consisting of four and one-half acres. In addition to the cabins, provisions are
Lia- N
- ./.,Il:'* L made to take care of campers and visitors with portable homes or trailers. Over
- the Fourth of July this year, there were 176 cars on the camping lot at Sea
Breeze, a fact that shows the popularity of camping is hardly on the wane.
Trailer facilities are of the best, and conveniences for the increasingly popular
car houses are numerous. There are 75 sets of fixtures for delivering water and
electricity to trailers. Natural rock fire places have been constructed for the
campers' convenience. Sea Breeze proudly boasts that it is the closest auto court
to town, yet is only 2000 yards from the ocean in three directions.
Camp Ideal
- Out at the most western extremity of Lighthouse avenue, Camp Ideal, of which
M.V. Santos is the proprietor, has 15 cabins. In addition, there is space provided
for tents. trailers and even one day picnickers. Picnic grounds and open fire-
places are available to those who come with the plan of spending either just a
few hours for a picnic or barbecue or who wish to erect their own tent and cook
over an open grate. Trailer facilities are adequate. Variety characterizes the two
acre camp ground, with an assortment of flower gardens and rockeries scattered
about, lending color and an attractive appeal. Nor are the fancies of children ne-
glected here, for swings and other playground accessories constitute a large part
of the drawing power Camp Ideal has for families. A typical cabin was de-
scribed in 1936 as a two-room cottage, board and batten inside and out, built oh
a concrete foundation with pine floors and a shingle roof.
