The City has been working with the Monarch

potential hazard to the residents of the Park and
Golf Course Superintendent Mike Leach and City
Forester Frank Ono have developed a plan
involving judicious pruning and limb removal. It
does not include the removal o f any trees.
Thanks Pete. for a most useful document.
DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Disaster Coordinator Russell Coile reports that
FEMA funding for the Coordinator's position is
in jeopardy. The funding stream has been
diverted and it appears as though the County will
not receive enough fiscal support to finance one-
half the salaries of their emergency management
personnel (this has been the level of funding in
the past). Thus, it is doubtful that the County will
pass through any funds to the twelve cities. Staff
is reviewing the situation and will prepare a
report to Council at the appropriate time.
Meanwhile, Dr. Coile is still attending training
sessions, giving lectures. and continually fine-
tuning our disaster preparedness capabilities.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Event, held at the Pacific Grove Middle School.
was a tremendous success. The Waste
Management District reported that more than 770
cars came to the event to turn in hazardous
products. The response from participants was
nothing but positive as they were very grateful
for having a chance to turn in household
batteries. paints, stains, pesticides, etc.

AERIAL SURVEY OF Pacific
GROVE
Taking advantage of a project for the City of
Monterey, Pacific Grove has contracted with a
firm to conduct an aerial survey of our
community. The project was funded from
existing resources by the Public Works
Department and the Community Development
Department. The final product will be used in the
GIS program and other applications.
BUILDING *TATI
During the month of October, the City issued 48
building permits with a total valuation of
$312,607. This produced permit fees of $8,400.
The bulk of the activity involved additions.
remodels. and alterations to single family homes.
DR. OCATHERENE REMENT
DAVIS
Although this name might not have significance
in the history of Pacific Grove. it sure does to
New York City. You see, Dr. Davis was the first
female Commissioner of the New York City
Department of Corrections and the latter is
seeking any information we might have about
her. What is the connection with Pacific Grove,
you ask? Well, she retired to our community in
1930 and died five years later.
The City has received a request for information
regarding Dr. Davis' five years in Pacific Grove.
