Gertrude Lucille (Husk) Rains,
98, died Saturday, July 13, at
French’s Adult Home. She had
lived in Shelton for 75 years.
She was born August 19, 1903
in Olympia to William Cooper
and Marie Christine ’(Frisch)
Husk.
She married Carl Rains on
February 23, 1921. They moved to
Shelton in 1927. Prior to her mar-
riage, Mrs. Rains Worked for the
phone company in Olympia for
several years.
She was an active member of
the First Baptist Church of Shel-
ton, giving 30 years of service to
the Women’s Missionary Fellow-
ship. She was also a member of
the Friendship Homemakers Club
and was active in 4-H programs.
The Rainses supported South-
side School. She enjoyed garden-
ing, flowers, swimming, boating
and fishing. Most of all, she en-
joyed spending time with her
family and friends. In her later
years, she enjoyed watching boats
and barges go by her home on
Hammersley Inlet. ,
She was preceded in death by
Mr. Rains in 1994, son Carl J.
Rains in 1984 and by five broth-
ers and five sisters.
Survivors include her sons,
Robert S. Rains and his wife Bet-
ty of Sequim and Frank V. Rains
and his wife Marie of Shelton; sis-
ters-in-law Bella Husk of Oregon
and Amara Husk of California;
nine grandchildren, 10 great-
grandchildren, one great-great-
grandchild and numerous nieces
and nephews.
A graveside service will be held
at 11 am: Friday, July 19, at
Shelton Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial do-
nations may be made to First
Baptist Church of Shelton Mis-
sionary Fund, 428 West Cota
Street, Shelton, or to a charity of
the donor’s choice.
