George Yoder 1E George Yoder took a last, peaceful breath surrounded by wife Lillian & family on October 9, 2012, at the age of 88. He was born the oldest of two boys on May 17, 1924, to Claude and Sylvia Yoder in Seattle, WA. George was raised in West Seattle. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, joining the 375th Artillery, was trained as a mechanic but served as a forward observer during World War II. He was part of the landing in Africa and Anzio then went on to France and finally Germany. He had many narrow escapes and was wounded in Italy. He refused the Purple Heart saying he still had all his arms and legs and others deserved it more. When he returned from the war, he married Alice, the girl next door, on May 7, 19445. They raised their three children in Bremerton. George was employed as a rigger at P.S.N.S., eventually teaching in the apprentice school there. HE became the Civilian Personnel Officer in Adak, Alaska, in 1966. He served in that position at Navy or Army bases in Fairbanks, Kodiak, the San Diego Navy Hospital, and finally back at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard where he retired. While serving on Kodiak he was able to fulfill a lifelong ambition to earn a pilot’s license. He enjoyed flying small planes for many years until his eyesight deteriorated. Once retired, George and Alice built a new home a Benson Lake. george was a 32nd degree Mason in Scottish Rite of Freemasonery and coached many men through their degree work, including his son, Jim, grandson Tyler, and son-in-law Larry, He served as Past Master of Steadfast Lodge, Union City Lodge, Hood Canal Lodge, Mount Mdriah Lodge, Past Worthy Patron of Olympic Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Royal Patron of Canal Court, Order of the Amaranth, as well as Past Grand Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Washington. He was also a member of the American Legion, Mason County Senior Center and Kitsap Lodge of Past Masters. George and Alice were married 59 years at her passing in 2004. George and Lillian were married on October 30, 2010. We are grieving the loss of this brilliant, loving man who taught us by example to live life 1 with integrity and to leave this world a better place than we found it. We’ll never forget the fishing and hiking trips in the olympics, boating adventures in the San Juan Islands, or the hunting trips to Chelan. We will always remember the stories and jokes he told us, his laughter and grins, and his endless patience with our questions and problems. George was our rock, our foundation and the most wonderful blessing in our lives.He was ready and eager to leave when the Lord called him home to be with Alice, his son Jim, and his grandson Doug. George is survived by his wife Lillian, daughter Carole (Larry) Beason, son George Yoder, Jr., daughter—in-law Carolyn Yoder, stepdaughter Michelle (Jeff) Greene, stepdaughter Marietta (Steve) Anicker, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, honorary family members and one brother.
