I vow to spend 1 evening per week working on my genealogy paper piles. Now that can mean actu- ally filing them, entering the information into my computer program, or just gathering them to one location in the house. I vow to try to spend one weekend day per month in actual research. This can include, library, fam- ily, internet, or visiting a cemetery. I vow to continue writing stories from my life—both current and past. I realize how important this is for any future family histori- ans, and how much I wish for the same from my ances- tors. I vow that this year I will ac- tually put the photos in the scrapbooks for my sons. I vow to continue volun- teering my time as a transcriber for the Wash- ington State Digital Ar- chives—Historical Docu- ment Project. I vow to help my oldest granddaughter learn to sew and work on other crafts. This is a legacy from not only myself, but her great-grandmother, my mother. What are your vows for the year 2011? Write them down, and make ap- pointed times to fol- low through on your vows until it is a routine. If you get behind, don’t give up—just start again. Understand that you may falter—but you are capa- ble of starting again. Genealogists—NewYear Resolutions January 2011 January is Organization Month January is a great month to work on organizing your family history material. Check your office sup- plies—lots of stores will have sales on basic sup- plies. Check what you need for storage solutions. The be- ginning of the month has lots of storage solutions on sales. ―To Thine Own Self Be True‖ - be honest about your work style—what or- ganization aids will assist your while staying true to your way? Do you need a photo safe box to store those photos until you can get to them. What do you need to take care of your paperwork to keep it or- ganized. Do you need to pick out a software pro- gram or new backup style?
