Ralph J gich Ralph Jr Eich, a resident of Shelton for 60 years and a retired locomotive engineer, died of can- cer Wednesday, October '7, at Fir Lane Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton. He was 67. He was born August 1, 1931, in Monroe to Joseph and Viola (Bush) Eich. He graduated from Shelton’s Irene S. Reed High School in 1950‘ Mr Eich served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954‘ He worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as a trackman, round- house laborer and locomotive fire- man before entering the Navy. Af— ter his discharge, he went back to work for the railroad and was promoted to engineer on Decen‘r ber 22, 1961, and retired April 4, 1995, He was a member of the Re- tired Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed traveling, hot rods, steam tractors, books, swap meets and anything to do with railroads. He is survived by cousins Es- telle Amberson of Monroe, Viola Hegewald of Monroe, John Arm- strong of Whidbey Island, Mar— gerite Luke of Auburn, Lenore Martinell of Everett and Grace Zeigler of Idaho; and special friends Mark and Kathy Drain of Shelton. . He was preceded in death by his mother Viola in 1995 and his father Joseph in 1997. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm. Saturday, October 17, at Hope Chapel, 421 West Street, Shelton Pastor Paul Clement will ofiiciate.
