Former Shelton resident Wal-
ter l‘Lad” Snelgrove died Septem»
bet 8 in San Francisco, Califor»
nia, at the age of 71.
Mr. Snelgrove was born March
22, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Walter
H Snelg'rove in Seattle. He at—
tended school in Shelton, gradu-
ating from Irene S. Reed High
School in 1941. He served in the
United States Navy during World
War II.
He attended the University of
Washington one year, then trans-
ferred to the University of Cali-
fornia at Berkeley, where he
graduated. He was awarded Full-
bright Scholarships in Art for two
years’ study in Europe. He taught
art for one year at the University
of California at Berkeley before
starting his career as an artist.
He was a well-known mtist in
the San Francisco Bay area for
many years until he was stricken
with Parkinson’s Disease. He also
dealt in antiques and the restora-
tion of antiques.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, Roger, in 1948.
He is survived by one sister,
Barbara Pauley of Shelton; his
brother, Edward “Ned,” and sis-
ter-in-law, Vina, of Selma, Cali-
fornia; his brother, Herbert, and
sister-in-law, Betty, of Soap Lake;
and his brother, Fred, and sister-
in-law, Eleanor, of Shelton.
