William Kamin
William “Bill” Forest
Kamin, 82, a resident
of Shelton, died Oct. 22,
2014, at Shelton Health
& Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Jan. 16,
1932, in Downers Grove,
Illinois, to Leslie and
Blanche (Queckboemer)
Kamin.
Bill graduated from
the University of Mon-
tana (Missoula) in 1958
with a degree in forest
engineering. He served
in the Illinois Air Na-
tional Guard and U.S.
Air Force from 1950-
1952. In the Air Force,
he served in the 126th
Bomb Wing, providing
support to NATO forces
in France until he was
discharged at the rank
of private first class in
1952.
He married Delphine
Theresa (Lohmeyer) Ka-
min on April 12, 1986, in
Shelton.
He was previously
married to Miriam The-
resa (Fettig) Kamin, who
died of cancer in Sep-
tember 1979. The couple
had eight children
— David, Anne, Julie,
Paul, Matthew, Thomas,
Stephen and Cathy.
Bill worked for Simp-
son Timber Co. in Shel-
ton from 1958-1995. He_
retired as the company’s
restoration program
manager.
He was an active
member of St. Edward
Catholic Church and
over the decades par-
ticipated on the Church
Council and Cemetery
Board.
He was an avid hiker
and climber and was
involved with the Olym~
pia Mountaineers. He
often helped with their
mountaineer courses.
He climbed many of
the major peaks of the
Cascade and Olympic
mountains.
In 1974, Bill climbed
Mount Kilimanjaro in
Tanzania and hiked in
the Andes Mountains in
Peru. He led numerous
family hikes, mainly

in the Olympics to
places such as Snowfield
Lakes, Mount Ellinor,
Mount Stone and Lena
Lake.
He was an armchair
historian to those who
listened, covering a
broad range of historic
events from military
wars to the spread of
humanity.
He had many other
interests, such as bird-
watching, gardening
(he particularly enjoyed
pennies), making puzzles
and playing with his
grandchildren.
Bill is survived by
wife Delphine Theresa
Kamin of Shelton; sister
Sally Kamin of Na-
perville, Illinois; sons
David (Jayni) Vince
Kamin, Paul (Victoria)
William Kamin, Mat-
thew Nathan Kamin
and Thomas Gerald
Kamin of Shelton and
Stephen (Tatiana) Fran-
cis Kamin of Richland;
daughters Anne (Wade)
Miriam Duffy and Julie
(Caleb) Louise Martin of
Shelton and Catherine
(Jefi) Anne Hakola of
Rochester; stepdaughter
Daris (Leigh) Devaney
of Shelton; stepson Dar—
ren Lohmeyer of Shel-
ton; 24 grandchildren;
and nine great-grand-
children.
He was preceded in
death by brothers Ger-
ald Kamin and Gene Ka-
min, stepson Derek Loh-
meyer, and wife Miriam
Kamin.
A visitation will be
from 4 pm. to 8 p.111.
Oct. 30 at McComb &
Wagner Family Funeral
Home and Crematory in
Shelton. A service will
be at 11 am. on Oct. 31
at St. Edward Catholic
Church.
