Success---Finally ---After 2 Year Search
I have good news to report on the hunt for a photo of
Beatrice Hollenbeck----San Jose's first woman school principal.
Thanks to the family of Beatrice Hollenbeck's descendants,
a photo of her has been found in a family album. The photo was
confirmed authentic when a handwritten note was found on the
back of the photo.
Last year, I had prepared a 1-page bio on Beatrice ---but chose
not to present it to other historians in hopes that an appropriate
photo would be found. I contacted many institutions and
individuals who
post family trees on Ancestry.com. It was an Ancestry connection
that led me to the G-G-Grandson of Beatrice ---Bob Williard.
He and his sister, Michelle McQuade, located a family photo
album
last Sunday at a Mother's Day party. Once they e-mailed me the
photo, I got their permission to share it, and then added it to my
bio.
This is an important addition to the history of San Jose Unified
SD.
I want to acknowledge the help that i got from fellow researcher,
Jean Dresden, in preparing the story.
Sincerely, Ed Hodges, volunteer historian for SJUSD
